The supermarket shelves are full of whey protein powder products all
claiming to be the best when it comes to building muscles and fat. Whey
protein are favored by body builders and athletes because of this property.
Choosing whey products can be confusing especially to novices and first time
users. Brands like Optimum Nutrition, Now Foods and Elite Whey are some of
the most recognized brand names in the market. To add to the confusion,
there is also soy protein, and
these products seem to recommend different serving sizes, offer different
flavors and different prices.
One of the first things to look for when thinking about bulking up in terms
of muscle and mass is to find the right whey supplement. And because of the
variety of products out there, there are important factors to consider
before choosing a brand.
A good whey protein powder is purity. Whey just like any other product goes
through a certain process that can take away certain elements that make a
product inferior or superior to others. Find a product that has two grams or
less of fat for every 25 grams of protein serving. This ratio is ideal in
terms of whey purity. Carbohydrates are also important but sugar should be
avoided. Whey products that have a lot of sugar have more lactose in it
which the filtration process failed to eliminate. An ideal whey protein
power will have somewhere around 3 grams of carbohydrates including sugar.
Also try to look for a product that has great taste. There are products like
Jay Robb and Whey Gold Standard that have different flavors like chocolate
or vanilla and these will taste differently to each other. Some athletes and
bodybuilders do not take into consideration the taste of the product;
however, it is important to have a liking for the taste.
Last but not the least; try to find something within your budget. Muscles
take some time to build so it is important to keep on taking whey protein
supplements and powders so try finding one that is easy on the wallet. Again
because of the number of products out in the market today, a wide range of
prices are available for the average consumers. A whey product that is cheap
but not too cheap would probably be a good idea. The more expensive brands
usually are usually the organic kind and they work just as well as the rest
of the other brands. Just make sure that the whey purity is not compromised
for the sake of cheapness.
The same is also true for expensive brands out there. Purity, taste and
budget should be balanced. There are brands that might cater to rich
athletes and bodybuilder so they might overprice - and sometimes over hype -
their products even though content is the same as those priced ideally. So
make sure you pay attention to price as well.
